Content matters. It needs to be new, readable, engaging, consistent, searchable and travels well across cultures. On this podcast, I share practical considerations when writing content and address the impact of graphics search, translations, and the use of jargon.
Professor Hilary Schulman of the Ohio State University, explains in a study: “The use of difficult, specialized words are a signal that tells people that they don’t belong,” she said. “You can tell them what the terms mean, but it doesn’t matter. They already feel like that this message isn’t for them.”
I mention the AI-enabled platform Acrolinx which companies like Siemens use to achieve consistency in terms of terminology and style in the extensive manuals, often comprising thousands of pages.
